The CrossBar proving it’s benefit’s at Windowrie!
Windowrie is a family owned and operated winery offering a variety of traditional and non-traditional wines including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempanillo, Sangiovese and Verdelho. The Windowrie winery is certified organic and the practice of minimal intervention is a core focus for their business.
Windowrie were the first winery to use the BROOKFIELD CrossBar so we caught up with Jason O’Dea, the Owner/Farm Manager at Windowrie Wines this month to find out what he thinks of the BROOKFIELD CrossBar and the difference that it has made to his vineyard operation.
Jason said “they were interested in buying the CrossBar to cut down on mowing primarily” as mowing consumed a lot of time spent between vineyard rows with over 400 acres of vineyard to manage including 200 acres being certified organic. “The CrossBar with very few moving parts has done that for us” he said.
The benefits Windowrie have gained by using the BROOKFIELD CrossBar include:
- Reduced mowing by 80% between vineyard rows
- Levelling mid-rows which has reduced the wear and tear on other machinery
- A shallow tillage between rows which doesn’t let out the heat but provides a bare soil,
which has resulted in a good improvement in mid-row heat
- Reduced groundcover to conserve water in dryer seasons
- Bearing the earth to reduce the impact of frosts
- Seedbed preparation before planting
- One person can connect it to the tractor in under 5 minutes
BROOKFIELD understand that for any type of farming operation, there is always the ongoing labour costs to maintain farm machinery. When designing the CrossBar, we ensured that it was a low maintenance machine that required no PTO or oil to operate and no tools to adjust the settings. Its as simple as connecting it to the tractor and off you go.
The discs on the CrossBar are easily replaceable and have a 66kg/m chain weight; they can be easily incorporated for varying soil conditions to maximise the results. The BROOKFIELD CrossBar is an ideal implement that can be used for organic and non-organic operations to replace chemical use between rows, eliminate mowing, prepare seedbeds and ensure roads are maintained all year round.
The CrossBar is available in 1.5m, 2.0m and 3.0m working widths to ensure it’s the right fit for any size operation. The best part is that you can purchase a CrossBar through our dealer network across Australia, we have established and reputable dealers in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
