Whilst the lead into the winter cropping season was a nail-biting affair for much of Eastern Australia chasing moisture and keeping mice at bay, timely rain has buoyed hopes for many with a cracking season on the horizon.

Managing Director at Active Group Pty Ltd and Brookfield Agriculture, Craig Wallace, explained Brookfield are gearing up for a productive winter and spring on the back of good rain with more on the forecast.

“The NSW DPI Combined Drought Indicator (CDI) shows 84 percent of NSW is in the Recovery or Non-Drought categories and the official 3-month climate outlook indicates near equal to high chances of above median rainfall across NSW for the next three months,” Craig outlined.

“It definitely looks like a positive start. Whilst it’s hard to make a call at this stage, even the typically conservative ABARES predictions are forecasting a record plant on the back of favourable climate conditions and world prices.

“WA is set to headline the yields. NSW is set to be lower than the record highs of last winter cropping season but well above the 10-year average. Planting conditions in much of SA and VIC weren’t great and there has been a delayed recovery from drought in some parts of the north-east and larger areas of western and southern NSW.

“Overall, there is a lot to be positive about in the agriculture industry and we are seeing that general feeling reflected in our discussions with clients. Now is a great time to drop into your local Brookfield dealer and chat about farming systems that work with the seasons and your future machinery requirements.”
