Over the past 30 years, farming practices have evolved from burning stubble and deep ploughing to the rise of zero-till systems. While zero-till solved many issues, it also brought new challenges, including poor weed control and low organic matter. At BROOKFIELD®, we knew there had to be a better way and that’s how Strategic Tillage was born.
A practical, moisture-saving system in three steps:
1. Stubble Knockdown
If there’s leftover residue, the BROOKFIELD Knockdown Chain flattens and crimps the stubble while mostly keeping it attached, kickstarting the breakdown process.
2. Residue Mulching & Weed Control
After summer rain, the ChainBar with Disc Chain is run over the field. It mulches residue into the top 30mm of soil and provides excellent surface-level weed control.
3. Optional Incorporation
If further weedkill or fertiliser application is needed, the Disc Chain can be used again. Optionally incorporating chemical or nutrients into the soil while retaining moisture and encouraging microbial activity.
