Real Results
The Challenge
For over 40 years, Merriwa merino wool farmer James battled the spread of Plains Grass, a drought-hardy, low-nutrition species that overtook his pastures and compromised wool quality, fertility, and overall flock health. The thick, clumping grass dominated his paddocks, harbouring pests like Slater bugs that destroyed lucerne and forced repeated, costly chemical use with diminishing results. After years of reliance on spraying, James needed a more sustainable solution to restore productive, high-quality pasture species on his black soil and improve moisture retention post-drought.
The Solution
Brookfield ChainBar D60 fitted with Knuckle Chain
The sheer cost of chemicals to address the farm meant that this was never going to be a total, single solution. The most significant consideration for James was to find a tillage implement that had the weight to tackle the structural density of Plains Grass and that would be able to withstand the rockiness of the terrain.
The Results
James took delivery of his Brookfield ChainBar in early 2025, and the results were immediate.
