Well timed planting rain along with eased concern over the seasonal outlook has buoyed NSW regional agricultural confidence for the winter cropping season. Active Group Managing Director, Craig Wallace, explained the “good start” to the season has left many farmers cautiously optimistic as the input cost crunch continues to bite.
“The mid-year outlook reports are citing an excellent start to the winter cropping season,” Craig outlined. According to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry ABARES NSW Australian Crop Report June Edition – winter crop production in NSW is forecast to increase by 36% to 15.0 million tonnes in 2024–25.
“There is much to be confident about with these latest figures sitting at 28% above the 10-year average to 2023–24. The favourable winter rainfall outlook is also expected to support high yield potentials forecast to rise by 24% to 2.5 tonnes per hectare in 2024–25, 23% above the 10-year average to 2023–24.”
